Who is Franck Muller?

Termed the ‘Master of Complications’, Franck Muller Designs have been noted for their stunning to sublime appearances. Revered by enthusiastic collectors and fans worldwide, Franck Muller has built up a following for his timepieces since entering the famous Geneva School of Watchmaking in 1981. Presenting his first unique creation in 1983, Franck has followed his own tradition by unveiling a world premiere piece once a year.

Nicknamed by his peers as ‘The Watchmaking Genius’, one of Mullers wristwatches has earned him the exclusive title of ‘The Most Complicated Wristwatch in the World’. The watch includes some amazing features often seen on individual watches, but never on the one timepiece: Grande and Petite Sonnerie, Minute repeater for the hours, quarters and minutes, a Perpetual Calendar programmed to the year 2100 with date, day of the week, month and monthly retrograde, leap-year cycle, 24-hour moon phase indicator, indicator of the internal temperature of the mechanism.

The Franck Muller story is indeed a fairytale, with the company building significantly over the past 20 years, and now including a prestigious Swiss Chalet on Lake Geneva, aptly named ‘Watchland’. In October 2002 Franck Muller was awarded the first prize at the ultimate watch competition, the Geneve Watchmaking Grand Prix, taking out the honors for the mens category. We can only wait to see what amazing creation Franck will com up with for his World Premiere 2008 piece. Stay tuned……..

Patek Philippe Manufacturing Process

Check out this amazingly cool video for the manufacturing process of Patek Philippe: You usually find with most watch company videos that unless t is an endorsement of sorts or features a celebrity, they do not put much money into the productions. The Patek Philippe watch is famed for its craftmanship and is one of the most carefully handmade watch, hence their vast purchase price.

The history of the brand dates back to 1839 by Anton Patek who began making pocket watches in Geneva. In 1845 Patek met and formed a company with watchmaker Adrian Philippe, hence the company named of Patek Philippe. They did not produce their first wristwatch together until 1868. By this time Patek Philippe were supplying watches to royalty such as Queen Victoria and her consort, the King and Queen of Denmark and later Pope Pius IX.

The company is currently owned by the Stern family and is famed for some of the most complicated watches ever produced, with many watch collectors regarding Patek Philippe as the best timepieces in the world.

Dreaming about designer watches

There are a couple of designer favorites out there that are right at the top of my Christmas list.: Way up high on my ever-growing list of wishful things is this stunning Christal Soft Pink Diamond Watch by Dior for only $4,250(which, may I add, nearly equals the cost of my first car!). Who can help but fall in love with this superb piece of bling-bling encrusted with 44 diamonds and three rows of sapphire crystals? Sure to be spoilt soon by Paris Hilton and clones, for me it’s just another dream… sigh

For all the label junkies out there, take a look at this bright red, in your face, diamante-dazzling watch from D&G. If you love your designers and truly want to show off, this timepiece is one heck of a ‘blinging’ way to achieve it!

Pushy Paris and darling Dali produce some interesting timepieces….

Not satisfied with sporting the latest in designer watches as the accessory of the year, celebs and stars are now stepping into the design arena and producing their own lines: Paris Hilton is the most recent heir apparent pushing her range of girly and glamorous timepieces with a staggering 27 styles already finding there way into stores to subdued reviews: More trashy than flashy, the range seems to feature over priced, plastic reproductions with the tacky, cheap trademark that we have come to expect from the Hilton base camp. Nice try, but not exactly up there in the echelons of the latest LV and Cartier releases which we will drool over later this week.

As long as I can remember I have been a fan of the artist Dali and covet reproductions of his vivid paintings and somewhat left of center designs. But whether this Dali watch design counts as art, I am not sure if the master himself would agree! Fashioned with the same strange sense of humor that Dali moulded into all of his works, this cute and kitschy watch uses the artists famous moustache as the watch hands on a puzzled looking Dali face. Not sure if its set to be a bestseller, but it certainly gave me a smile! What do you think?
